What NOT to do on an interview!

Through our time at Choice1Temps, we have seen many people come through our doors for an interview. Some have been amazing, while others…well they could use a little work. It’s because of the number of interviews that we do, that we feel strongly we can provide you with the top 3 things NOT to do when going on an interview.

The first thing to never do when attending an interview is show up at the wrong time. This is regarding both being too early and being late. Some people feel that by showing up very early for an interview that it makes them look like a “go getter.” But in reality that can throw a potential employer off because then they might feel rushed to meet with you, and then they are not prepared. You also do not want to be late to an interviewing taking time away from what could be a very busy time for an interviewer. The best advice I can give is to show up ten minute early to an interview. It shows that you came prepared to be on time and ready to put your best foot forward.

The second thing you should never do when it comes to an interview, is to come dressed inappropriately. Depending on the job that you are applying for, you should always come dressed too impressed. If you show up for a job underdressed, like in your pajamas or gym clothes, it sends a sign that you are not taking this seriously. Even if the job you are applying for is one that you know will be acceptable for casual attire, you still want to come to the interview dresses professionally. It shows that you are the kind of person who is dependable, dedicated, and ready to be in the workforce.

And the last thing you should never do when it comes to interviewing, is to come not knowing what the full job description is or what the company does. Many times people only skim a job description and think “Oh sure, I’ll throw my name in there.” If you come to that interview unprepared for what the job is, you could be wasting not only the companies time, but yours as well. You want to make sure that you do your research before hand. Know what the job is and who you are interviewing with. When you come prepared, it shows. The person conducting your interview will see it and it will automatically make you a better candidate for the position.

Interviewing can be a very nerve wracking process. But, if you take these three tips to heart, I promise you it will make things a little easier on you.
